Indigenous people are often imagined far away (in the Amazon) or long ago (when cowboys were terrorizing Indian country). Indigenous identity is stolen like the land and essentialized in order to police who is ‘pure’ enough to make land claims. Self-representation is rare. In the Netherlands self-representation is practically non-existent. This exposition tells stories by Indigenous people living in the Netherlands in a location where they can dream.
This edition features personal/political dreams of Richard Toppo (Oaron), Ayesha Slater (Yirrigandydji), Shanthuru Premkumar (Tamil), Roberto Calisaya (Aymara), Juan Manque (Puel-huillimapu) and Semuel Sahureka (Alifuru). By visiting the exposition you can read about their Indigenous Dreams. Dialogues explore Indigenous concepts of sovereignty.
