Join us for a screening of the LUX Audience Award winner of 2024: ‘The Teachers’ Lounge’. ‘The Teachers’ Lounge’ (original title: Das Lehrerzimmer) by German director Ilker Çatak has won the 2024 LUX European Audience Film Award. The film tells the story of Carla (played by Leonie Benesch), a young high school teacher in Germany whose idealism sets her apart from her colleagues. When one of her students is suspected of a series of thefts, Carla decides to go after the truth. Her investigation quickly creates a hostile atmosphere amongst the teaching staff. What she discovers shakes the foundations of the entire school and confronts Carla with an impossible dilemma. The European Audience Film Award demonstrates the European Parliament’s commitment to culture. The initiative promotes cultural diversity and provides tangible support to European cinema and the arts.
About the speakers
Johannes Duncker is a German film director, screenwriter, film producer and film festival director. He has a long-standing collaboration with İlker Çatak. In 2023, he won the German Film Prize together with Çatak for their script for The Teacher’s Room.
Jasmijn Schrofer is an independent filmmaker with a unique blend of cultural backgrounds, currently based in both Amsterdam and Nairobi.
